Therapists at Beck Institute are highly trained in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). Whether you are suffering from mild depression or more complex and challenging problems, our therapists will work closely with you to develop an treatment plan to help address the specific issues that interfere with your life satisfaction and ability to function. We provide an atmosphere of privacy and confidentiality, along with an expert treatment team.
Understanding the process
1. Make an appointment. Call our intake coordinator at 610-664-3020. She will gather your contact information and a brief description of your concerns, and work with you to schedule an appointment at a time that is convenient for you.
2. Meet your therapist. During the first appointment, you and your therapist will talk about your problem, how it came about, and how it impacts your life. Please bring the completed Beck Institute Patient Packet with you. You may rate your mood or complete another inventory that gives your therapist an objective baseline. This first session lasts about 90 minutes. At the end, the therapist will summarize his or her impressions and make recommendations for next steps. If CBT is appropriate, we can schedule a follow-up appointment at your convenience.
3. Participate in treatment. In the first part of therapy, you and your therapist will focus on setting specific goals and planning the treatment process. Next, you’ll address the problems you feel are most important. Your therapist will teach you specific skills, including how to:
-
Identify, evaluate, and change inaccurate thoughts and beliefs
-
Implement strategies to change behavior that causes you problems
-
Monitor your mood
After each session, you will practice these skills. This combination of learning and practice is the heart of CBT. It allows you to develop skills you can use for the rest of your life.
