Inpatient/Outpatient Staff Training Workshops
Both inpatient and outpatient facilities are becoming increasingly cognizant of the need to train their staffs in cognitive therapy. The Beck Institute Staff Training Program is available to organizations in the United States and to international sites. Some or all of the following components may be combined to provide high quality training.
- One or more designated trainees from your site travel to the Beck Institute for one week of intensive training, focusing on learning how to do cognitive therapy. Training includes didactic sessions, role-playing, viewing of videotapes, watching live patient sessions on our closed circuit television, participating in supervision sessions, readings, and attending seminars led by Aaron T. Beck. M.D., Judith S. Beck, Ph.D., and other Beck Institute senior faculty. (Cost: $1300. per week per person. Training fees are only refundable in special circumstances.)
- The designated trainees are then enrolled in the one-year Extramural program where they are assigned a Beck Institute supervisor. During the Initial phase the trainees send an audiotape in English of a therapy session (or the transcript of a therapy session, translated into English) to their Beck Institute supervisor each week. The trainees then have a 45-minute telephone supervision session, or interact by email, with their supervisor, who discusses the audiotape, provides critiques and prepares supervisee(s) for the next session. During the final phase, trainees receive weekly supervision training and send tapes (or transcripts) of supervision sessions, followed by phone or e-mail supervision. (Cost: $8000. per year per person plus phone/express mail expenses. Training fees are only refundable in special circumstances.)
- A Beck Institute senior faculty member presents a two-day workshop at your site to teach and encourage staff to use cognitive therapy tools and techniques. (Please call for costs of speakers.
Training fees are only refundable in special circumstances.)
A more or less intensive arrangement may be individually structured.
Designated trainees will be given a certificate from the Beck Institute following successful completion of the program. They will also be encouraged to apply for certification in cognitive therapy through the Academy of Cognitive Therapy.
