Extramural Program for International Trainees
For Qualified International Applicants

What's Involved:
  • Two 2-Day Workshops (if travel is a hardship, please contact us)
    Upcoming Extramural Workshops:

    January 26 - 27, 2009
    May 4 - 5, 2009
    October 19 - 20, 2009

  • Bi-Weekly Review of Audiotapes/CDs (every other week) with Bi-Weekly Intensive Supervision via Telephone

    OR

  • Bi-Weekly review of Therapy Transcripts with Supervision via email

Applicants must hold at least a Master's degree in a mental health, medical, or related field. This program enables qualified international clinicians to engage in the Extramural Training Program, in one of two specially designed formats. Participants may elect to send a 45-minute English language audiotape or CD of a therapy session by express mail to a Supervisor every other week for one year ($4,550) or for two years ($8,075). Tuition includes the cost of lunch at Extramural 2-Day Workshops. After reviewing the audiotape/CD in its entirety, the Supervisor holds a 45-minute supervision session by phone with the participant every other week.

Alternatively, participants may send a transcript of a therapy session (translated into English) to their supervisor every other week for one year ($4,550) or two years ($8,075). After receiving the transcript, the supervisor will communicate feedback through email. Tuition includes the cost of lunch at Extramural 2-Day Workshops.

Group rates: If 3 or more colleagues enroll at the same time, the tuition for each person will be reduced by $500. This means that the 6-month program tuition will be reduced to $4,050, and the 12-month will be reduced to $7,575. To access this group rate, please send an email to education@beckinstitute.org and indicate the names of your colleagues. When you fill out the application below and choose your intended program, it will indicate the full, base tuition. Then, after you and your colleagues are accepted, the reduced rate will be applied.

A $300 deposit is due upon signing the contract. Trainees may opt to extend one-year contracts, but please note that the discounted two-year rate is only available if selected at the time of initial application. Training fees are payable by check or credit card (Mastercard or Visa). Applicants who apply online will be able to submit credit card payments through our secure online system. Training fees are only refundable in special circumstances. Trainees are responsible for expenses of express mail for tape/CD delivery, phone calls, and travel and lodging for workshops in Philadelphia. Following successful completion of the extramural program (as demonstrated by Cognitive Therapy Rating Scale scores) trainees receive a certificate from the Beck Institute. Trainees who do not qualify for a certificate will receive a letter stating the number of hours they participated in the extramural program, and are encouraged to continue.
